Nutrition as You Age

Keeping a healthy diet is extremely important as you age – to improve your energy levels, maintain a healthy weight and prevent against chronic health conditions. Men less than 70 years of age require 65 grams of protein per day, whilst those over 70 require up to 80 grams high-protein foods including eggs, meat, poultry, dairy, nuts and legumes. Fibre is important to combat gastrointestinal issues, such as bloating and constipation. Foods high in fibre include wholegrain breads, vegetables and fruits. It is also important you drink plenty of water to assist with digestion as well to maintain your fluid status – you tend to lose more fluid as you age due to your skin becoming thinner.
